It was brought to the market on the 1 July 1979 by the Japanese company Sony. With the TPS-L2 music cassettes could be played for the first time in a portable small device and through headphones. To be able to listen to music anywhere and anytime meant a revolution of the consumer electronics and in leisure behaviour.
