Jean-Louis Forain (1852 - 1931), a French Impressionist painter, lithographer and etcher. Guillaume Apollinaire considered Forain among the most significant of living artists. Edouard Vuillard found Forain drawings equal to Eugene Delacroix or Honore Daumier. Forain participated in four Impressionist exhibitions between 1879 and 1884. A follower of Daumier, friend and protege of Degas, Forain created numerous scenes of the Law Courts and other Parisian institutions plus social satires as well as caricatures on late 19th and early 20th-century French life.
