Donogoo Tonka was the largest museum exhibition of Rinus Van De Velde in Belgium.
He draws himself as an actor in an imagined artist biography, based on found photographs or photographs of staged scenes by him. Texts at the large, detailed images provide context. The drawings look virtuoso, direct, light and cool. But soon you discover the underlying layers. Van de Velde works with charcoal and so can work quickly and in a consistent style.
