A large (31 cm) and imposing porcelain Sèvres vase made with high gloss glaze in tints of dark cobalt-blue on the base and with slightly cloudy stains. Decorated with 24 carat golden edges at the neck and foot and various, different golden flower decorations. The French text ‘offert par le président de la republique française’ on the bottom. The bottom has the most recent logo which was designed in 1970 by the French painter and art theorist Georges Mathieu (1921-2012). It is printed in the traditional green or 'vert de chrome'. The red enamelled logo has the initials of the artist that is accredited with the design and it has various marks indicating the designer, the paste and the painter. It is 31 cm tall. Sèvres, founded in 1738, was a factory in Chateau de Vincennes which was moved in 1756 to the village of Sevres, south-west of paris. Sèvres enjoyed royal clients and a monopoly that used a detailed system of marks since the beginning. Sèvres is a popular factory for the manufacturing of royal and diplomatic gifts as well as for purchases by royal families and the aristocracy.
