Here are some of the characteristics that define the SL-1200: direct drive (no slipping) magnetic mechanism (no wear). Strong torque (1.5 kgf · cm or 0.15 N · m), which means that the platter will turn at the selected speed almost immediately (0.7 seconds to reach 33 ¹ / ₃ RPM from stopped), and will very quickly reacquire the desired speed, without “overshooting”, if the platter is slowed down or speeded up. This facilitates beat-matching. Very little wow or flutter (0.01%), which means that the platter will stay within 1/100 of 1% of the desired speed. Heavy base (12.5 kg), and increased isolation of the base plate, reducing the probability of reactions or feedback. Variable speed control, allowing the rotation speed to be adjusted from - 8% to + 8% (for the purpose of beat-matching: forcing the rhythm in BPM). High reliability: many SL-1200 models last for well over 15 years of heavy use and withstand physical shocks without affecting performance. The quartz model is still the only exceptional model for quality vinyl purists.
