Frisian chair clock replica - Wood - 20th century

Optically, the clock is in good condition, but it doesn't work any more after having been stored for years. A Frisian "stoelklok" with polychrome decorations, striking mechanism and painted dial flanked by mermaids. A "stoelklok" is a hanging clock with a movement that stands on legs on a chair ("stoel"). This "stoelklok" is a replica and was made in the 1970s. These were made in large numbers in the Netherlands in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. Frisian "stoelklokken" were made throughout all parts of the Dutch province of Friesland (Frisia). Closely related models were made in the province of Groningen. A Frisian "stoelklok" can be recognised by its painted dial, the mermaids on the back board and the many gold-plated lead decorations. Frisian "stoelklokken" feature short pendulums.
