Superb large and impressive work. Framed with a beautiful thick Paul Gehring frame. When the beautiful light falls on it, it is as if you are in the middle of it. Louis van Soest is a painter of the Veluwezoom and is often mentioned in the same breath as the Veluwe painters Jan van Vuuren and Edzard Koning, with whom he was friends. He shows himself to be a true Dutch impressionist in his snow landscapes. At times he paints nature covered with a white down cloth with bluish shadows, sometimes interspersed with a haze of light. Then again he paints the thawing snow with water sweeps and bare earth surfaces of pale green and brown. Van Soest gave painting lessons among others to Queen Wilhelmina.
