Dimensions: 0.1×17.5×24.5 cm

Original woodblock print by Tsukioka Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) - 'Oishi Sezaemon - From the series ‘Pictorial Biographies of the Loyal Retainers’ (Seichû gishi meimei gaden) - Japan - 1869

Both Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Utagawa Yoshitora were influenced by the teachings of their shared master Utagawa Kuniyoshi and both got inspired by his series ‘Seichu gishi den’ which portrays the famous story of the 47 faithful ronin. While there are similarities in the designs they produced showing the influence of the work of their master, the visual outcome is entirely different.

Yoshitoshi’s prints are in his signature style that made him one of the art-form's greatest innovators and being widely regarded as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre. This print is an excellent example of this; a strong, lively scene is shown with a great level of detail and subtlety. ‘Kimekomi’ (embossing) is applied on the white parts of the ronin’s robe.

Size: Chuban, approximately 24,5 x 17,5 cm.

Overall condition is good, backed.
Please have a look at the photos for details.

Will be sent with care in acid-free paper and sturdy cardboard packaging.
