Jaguar - XJ6 4.2 Serie 1 - 1971

Rare and beautiful Jaguar XJ6 series 1! This Jaguar was sold new in Canada. At the time, the E-type was also being sold in the same colour scheme. In September 1968, the XJ6 Series 1 was released. For Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons, the development of the XJ was his last feat. The buyer could select either the 2.8 litre engine or the 4.2 engine. The former power source did not really suit the XJ Series 1 that well. Cooling and timing flaws often caused damage to the engine. Also the 2.8 was not able to hold up in comparative tests with German and Italian competitors The 4.2 engine performed significantly smoother and was known as a beautifully running engine with plenty of power. Air conditioning was optional and power steering came as a standard (however not on the 2.8 variant). This XJ6 was put to a halt in 1980 at 80,000 miles due to engine damage. The body was repainted around the same time. Not due to rust, but simply because of visible damage here and there. The owner at the time collected various EURO-parts during the following years. Around 2008, the project was sold and the last owner mounted the revised engine complete with SU carburettors, Euro headlights, NOS brake calipers, completely new front wheel suspension, etcetera, etcetera. The engine compartment looks very well cared for. The complete steering rack replaced in January this year (Coventry Cars invoice present). Only needs to be aligned. Air conditioning decoupled but all of the components are present. Original Becker radio mounted. Interior in beautiful condition with few traces of wear. Very nice bodywork, here and there slight traces of wear, no rust. The car drives, brakes and shifts properly but a maintenance service is advised to be performed prior to long drives or intensive use. The car has a sliding roof. Chrome in mint condition. New petrol pumps mounted. After the revision in 2008, the car only travelled 11000 miles. This is a unique chance to buy an affordable and beloved 1 series. The reserve price is set to a very reasonable amount. Even though this is a great classic car, it is not a new car and therefore we cannot provide any guarantee. Will be sold "as is". No refund possible and we advise you to schedule an appointment to view the car before placing a bid. The car can be viewed and picked up in Schaijk, the Netherlands.
