Around 1900 - Good condition, used with some signs of wear
|Object:||Knife (More lots)|
|Indigenous object name:||Ikula|
|Ethnic group/ culture:||Kuba|
|Region/ country:||Congo DRC|
|Material:||Wrought iron, wood, cut metal wire|
|Condition:||Good condition, used with some signs of wear|
|Sold with stand:||No|
The handle of this ikula is beautifully inlaid with small pieces of metal (tin wire?), whereby the characteristic geometric patterns of the Kuba are created. Every king in the Kuba Kingdom designed his own logo with a geometric pattern, that then appeared on all of the cups, drums, raffia dresses and even knives.
Decorations have been applied on the forged blade, a rib in the middle with curved lines next to it.
Given its age, the condition is good. The knife has a beautiful patina both on the wood as on the iron. The blade is properly fixed to the handle. See photos.
On the last picture: the knives are kept in the raffia walls of a house.
The ikula will be packed with care and sent by insured and registered mail.
