A procession lantern is a lantern or candle holder on a long stick or rod. Procession lantern are used, for instance, in the Catholic Church at processions, often to accompany the procession cross. Carrying the lanterns used to be the task of fraternities.
This procession lantern is made with tapered glass and openwork style frame with heat cap. The lantern hangs on a hinge in a clevis with a stick holder, so that the candle is always upright and not leaking. Lantern comes from a demolished monastery. It is in good condition, could do with some cleaning. Comes without stick.
