Beautiful oil painting on cardboard by the painter Faino from Bergamo, famous for his allegorical figures published in Ducato di Piazza Pontida, Bergamo. An unusual romantic representation of two lovers with a goat, looking far away in the hope for a better future after World War I. Stamped and awarded 2nd place at an exhibition in Como in 1922 (see pictures). Alfredo Faino (Bergamo, 1885 - Nice, 1944) was sculptor, painter, draughtsman; a pupil of the Carrara Academy, he obtained important awards in the School of Plasters and Statues, winning two first prizes, in 1900 and 1901, and an honourable mention in 1902. During the 1915-18 war he enlisted as a volunteer in the Italian Legion (commanded by Peppino Garibaldi), fighting valiantly in the Argonne battle. In 1923 he created the large bronze statue of Victory for the Tower to the Fallen (inaugurated in 1924). In Paris, he painted a portrait of the then President of the Republic, Raymond Poincaré. He died tragically in Nice.
