KiKa stands for Children cancer free. In the Netherlands, there are hundreds of children diagnosed with cancer every year, one in four children doesn't survive. KiKa believes that this should improve and can improve. Kika raises funds for innovative research and other activities in the field of children's cancer, focused on less pain during treatments, more healing, and a higher quality of life at a later stage.

For this initiative of KiKa no less than fifty photographers visited children with cancer or children who have had cancer. Their special meeting has led to an exquisite collection of unique photos which can be obtained exclusively at Catawiki from 3 to 24 April, where the full proceeds including 9% buyer commission will be donated to KiKa and the Prinses Máxima Centre in Utrecht.

After the cancer diagnose Julian’s world was turned upside down. From one day to another his world collapsed and he was a cancer patient with a bad prognosis. "Takes into account it could be months" they told him in the hospital. What followed was a period in which Julian was treated; He received radiation and chemotherapy. Everything was about Julian in that period of time, for everyone in his environment. It was quite logical, and of course very well intended, but it also suffocated Julian every now and then. So many people who claimed his attention, his time, and his energy. And if there ever was a moment Julian did not think about his disease, there was always someone who reminded him again. And then he had to use a wheelchair. Now it was also clear for the outside world that something was going on with him. Yet another thing that made him stand out. But the wheelchair also gave him a lot of freedom and independence. On the one had he hated it, but on the other hand, he wouldn’t want to do without it. Of course Julian wishes he wasn’t sick at all, but that choice was not given. What he did want was being "as normal as possible". Just to be treated like the Julian that he was before the diagnosis. That's also what Julian and Popel want to show with these photos. Julian who by his illness suddenly came to be in the spotlight, while he actually prefers to be in the shade.
