The Kplekplé mask of the Goli is a lunar mask. It comes in the male form Kplekplé yassua (black) or female Kplekplé bla (red). They always dance as a couple on the occasion of the funerals of the notables and also appear in playful celebrations.
When it doesn't dance, it always stays out of women's eyes. During the dancing, the wearer─on a palm fibre garment─ covers his back with an antelope skin and hits it with a whip. On his ankles, a few little bells or metal pieces to set the rhythm─when striking─for the dance steps and keep away the curses.
The Goli festival normally lasts one day and the whole village takes part in it. Different groups of masks participate in the dancing.
The wood part is 35 x 17 x 12 cm. The total height─including the fibre─is 70 cm approximately.
