Antique red witch ball - Glass
This traditional belief existed for a long time and witches’ balls were used in the 18th century. Witches’ balls strongly resemble our modern Christmas tree balls. They were made in 18th century England to ward off evil spirits. As witches are not supposed to have a mirror images, the thought was that witches could be recognised in the reflections of these balls. Some reasoned that by the mysterious bending of the light, evil forces were scared off. As soon as a witch or evil spirit touched the ball, she or he became a prisoner of it.
