Signed bottom left, located and countersigned on the back. The paint is in good condition despite some signs of wear on the edges of the panel. The frame, not as old as the painting, is also in good condition. This painter from the Savoie region depicts here the le Lac du Bourget (Aix-les-Bains, Savoie) with the outline of the castle of Châtillon. Born 25th August 1890 in Chambéry, Francis Cariffa exposed in 1924, at the Galerie Simonson, in Paris where the government bought one painting. This recognition strengthened him. From 1927, he exhibited everywhere in France, Paris, Nice, Lyon… He is friends with other painters from Savoie, like Joseph Communal, Jean Communal or Lucien Poignant. The mountain, the Lac of Bourget and other typical places from Savoie are his favourite subjects. He was known also as orientalist painter because of his many paintings made in Morocco. He makes decorations for the liner "Normandie". He died on 30th December 1975 in Challes-les-eaux. Listed artist. Carefully packed, insured and tracked international parcel.
