‘Le Commerce’ (the trade in French) - A large, well made sculpture of an athletic, half nude male figure with an anchor.
Made of regule/spelter.
The sculpture displays all kinds of trade-related attributes: the male leans on a ruler and is seated on a pillar/chest with a lion skin on top. Behind that is a large anchor. He stands on a small chest with his foot with an inscription that refers to the Suez Channel. He holds a laurel branch in his left hand, a symbol of fame and victory since history.
The sculpture is marked with the seal ‘Fabrication Francaise Paris made in France’.
Signed on the base: ‘FERRAND’, for Ernest-Justin Ferrand (1846-1932).
Marked with ‘Le Commerce’ on the front.
It weighs more than 13 kilograms.
