These small Jars were used by both men and women for the holding of oils and ointments associated with elite burials. In daily life, Kohl was widely used amongst the royal family and elite of the pharaoh's court to outline the eyes, originally as protection against the sun, later as a decorative representation of the protective Udjat, or Eye of the god Horus.
