Small vinaigrette / smelling, perfume box from the 19th century; this classy box comes from the Cocks & Bettridge manufacturer 1802-1818
Silver, gold-plated on the inside, beautiful floral engravings on the lid!
In good condition, age-related signs of wear and tear (see photos)
These fragrance boxes were used primarily in Victorian times by classy ladies to use during the threat of a fainting spell.
Embossing (hallmark):
- Hallmarked with a lion on the left looking towards the viewer (fineness marking from before 1821)
- Master’s mark ‘C&B’ (Cocks & Bettridge Manufacturer 1802-1818)
- Tax mark (George III from 1786 onwards)
- City mark (anchor = Birmingham)
- Manufacture date ‘q’ (1814)
