F.W. Hartsuijker (1894-1991) - Boerderijlandschap

Beautiful pastel by Frans Willem Hartsuijker, Frans Willem Hartsuijker (Amsterdam, 4 June 1894 - Utrecht, 28 September 1991) was a Dutch artist and pastel artist. His name is sometimes, formally incorrectly, listed as Frederik Willem or Fred Hartsuiker or Hartsuyker. Sometimes an incorrect date of birth is listed as '1896'. Frans was a lively man who liked to talked. In the years 1977/1978, he was invited to the radio programme ‘Rozegeur’ and ‘Prikkeldraad’ of the NCRV/Rik Felderhof, and he was also a guest on the television programme ‘Voor de Vuist Weg’ by Willem Duys. Frans was self-taught. He only attended an art school in the evenings, after his work as a carriage painter with Werkspoor. It seems that he was called Frans by his family, but he often introduced himself as Fred. He signed his works mostly with F.W. Hartsuijker, but F. Hartsuijker is also common. Normally he would not dot the ‘ij’, which resulted in his name being read as Hartsuyker (incorrectly). It all contributed to the confusion of his name.
