After Pieter Janssens Elinga (1623-1682) - A Woman Reading
Pieter Janssens Elinga (1623 Bruges-1682 Amsterdam) is a painter who lived in the golden age of Dutch painting, predating Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675).
The original version by Pieter Janssens Elinga is in the "Alte Pinakothek München".
A woman Reading is a painting that portrays a lonely reader in the privacy of her home, in a cozy atmosphere "Gezelligheid" where she can calmly take off her clogs and devote herself to the pleasure of reading in the silence of her room.
To highlight in the painting the magnificent geometrical perspective where the woman reading appears, surrounded by a chair, a fruit fountain, an old trunk, two paintings on the wall, a mirror and two windows through which a beautiful light enters.
With the light of the candles, the painting is transformed instantly, the colors increase its warmth and take on a new dimension, this painting was created to be seen by candlelight.
