An oil painting on panel by Nunzio Bava, a painter from Reggio Calabria (Bagaladi 1906 - Reggio Calabria 1994). It is considered the most important verist painter of Calabria and an artist close to the Macchiaioli. He participated in various national exhibitions, and personal exhibitions in Reggio and Perugia. The panel in this lot was displayed at the personal exhibition in Perugia in June 1942, as written on its back. Title of the work: "Paesaggio sullo stretto", dating back to 1936. It depicts the Strait of Messina as seen from Calabria, with Sicily in the background. It bares a stamp from the exhibition in Perugia of 1942, on the back. Signed on bottom left: N.BAVA XVII. In excellent condition, size: 43 x 36 cm. The painter has painted the four lunettes of the Chapel of the S.S. Sacramento of the Cathedral of Reggio Calabria.
