Henk Welther, (1891 - 1947) - Bedrijvigheid naast de schepen.

Henk Welther played the painter in the way of the Hague, with the beret oblique on the head. He had good relations. Once in the week Van Gilst brought him several paintings, for which he depending on size, five a ten guilders per piece. He didn’t need to sign them, Welther would do himself. Van Gilst met also colleague painters who did exactly the same. They brought him landscapes, still lifes, village views, etc. These painters were Aris Knikker, Jan Knikker Sr., Jan Knikker Jr., Henk Schallenberg, and Cornelis de Bruin. The paintings were then signed by Welther. The work is nicely stretched on the stretcher. It does have some craquelure at the top. (see photos) The frame is in perfect and undamaged condition. It will be shipped in a custom made crate to avoid damage.
