Painter and engraver
Is Andre Goezu looking for soulmates? Without a doubt. In his self-imposed solitude as a graphic artist – remaining confined in his studio like an artist monk, surrounded by quill pens and acids, presses and paint tubes – Goezu does not aspire to the recognition of crowds or the tumult of media and curators, but to dialogue, to the mutual exchange of sensibilities, to selective affinities, Wahlverwandtschaften. But the true osmosis remains material, it is realised in Goezu’s graphic talent, which manages to synthesise the complex techniques of colour engraving, dry point and aquatint. It is not surprising that he has given a completely personal expressiveness to the monotype. Goezu likes to play with gradations and an underlying range of colours. Thus, he makes us understand, but rarely in a direct manner, that what matters most to him is the symbolic superposition of dream and reality, or the simultaneity of hundreds of thousands of different lives that play out in the same space, or else a telescoped vision of past and present.
