Victor Simonin ( 1877 - 1946) - Stilleven met Keulse pot en groenten, gesigneerd rechtsonder

Victor Simonin was a Belgian neo-realistic painter. He also attended the evening classes at the academy of fine arts in Brussels and the violin class at the conservatory. An accident resulted in a left hand handicap, after which he completely focused on painting. Simonin belonged to the 'Sillonisten', a group of young Belgian painters, pupils of the academy in Brussels, who rediscovered Impressionism around 1900. The display of lighting in rich colours, spontaneous paint strokes and an excessive amount of used paint characterises the work of these painters. The work offered here is a good example of this and convincingly shows the 'handwriting' of its creator Victor Simon.
