Achille Castiglioni, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni - Zanotta - Stool - Mezzadro

Stool, model: Mezzadro, original 1970s, in good condition, chrome-plated steel support and beech base, moulded and painted sheet metal seat. Manufacturer: Zanotta 1970, purchased in 1972/1973. 52 x 49 x 55 cm. Mezzadro seat. Designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni - 1957. Made by Zanotta - 1970. It is composed of four elements: a seat, a wing nut, a leaf spring, and a crossbar. Even the special fixing system employs a familiar object, used to secure the wheels of a bicycle: a large wing nut that allows you to tighten the joining parts without the use of screwdrivers or keys. The seat is made from moulded and painted sheet metal: the leaf spring (in stainless steel), the seat support also found on a tractor but turned the other way to absorb the bumps of the agricultural vehicle off-road, is used here to make the seat more flexible. The wooden crossbar (solid beech), which is vaguely reminiscent of a yoke, provides two additional supports necessary to keep the seat stable.
