Giuseppe (Professor) Bessi was an Italian sculptor, famous for his busts and realistic sculptures, such as prominent figures of Ludwig van Beethoven, Joan of arc, and Alighieri Beatrice, Muse of Dante. To create his very detailed sculptures, Bessi mainly used alabaster and marble and combined Neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles. Born in 1857 in Volterra, Italy. During his lifetime, Bessi works were included in the World Fair in Paris, Turin and Saint-Louis. His sculptures and busts are found in the collections of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Ecomuseo dell'Alabastro in Volterra. Bessi died in 1922 in Volterra, Italy.
