Beautiful bronze Art Deco tomb plate / plaque depicting Jesus in relief. Art Deco design by Sylvain Norga, a well-known Belgian sculptor who made many bronze (Art Nouveau and Art Deco) tomb plaques and ornaments (see last photo with description in the leading Belgian art lexicon). Also note the beautiful patina! Dates from around the 1930s. Sylvain Norga (1892-1968) was a sculptor who had great commercial success providing affordable, durable tomb decorations. His offer was varied and because of the large circulation the prices were reasonable. Especially bronze cast figurative reliefs, depicting Christ heads (often with a tear in the eye), crosses, wreaths, palm branches, vases and religious scenes and furthermore emblems and symbols such as the ‘marital handshake’. The lower right corner of the bronze plate shows the signature S. NORGA. The plaque is in good condition with minimal traces of use (see pictures).
