This 911 Carrera 3.0 with the special M930/02 engine has matching numbers and birth certificate. The car has been in the Netherlands since 2003 and before we bought it, it had spent 10 years with the same Dutch owner. The engine was completely overhauled at 177,000 km. A photo album of this overhaul is available.
The car came into us in 2016 and was addressed straight away. The car no longer had the original colour, the upholstery was grey when it originally would have been black leather. We stripped back the car completely in order to respray it in the original colour ‘dunkelblau’ with colour code 347. We also had everything reupholstered in black leather. We also replaced all rubbers, dashboard and various other parts. Porsche started with the Carrera 3.0 (930/02) engine (which actually was also used in the Turbo versions) in 1976. Besides the engine, the car has a number of other changes from that period, such as aluminium sheet metal parts. The connoisseur will appreciate the value of this car and will understand its potential to increase in value in future.
THE MOST SPECIAL TO THIS CAR (RARITY) IS THE MOTORIZATION AND HOW EXACTLY IT IS, PLEASE READ BELOW:
The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 takes a special place in the history of the Porsche 911 series. The Carrera 3.0 brings together elements of two of the most legendary Porsches ever made. The design is an incarnation of the classic 2.7 litre RS from 1972 while the 2994cc cast aluminium block is the same as that used in its faster cousin, the simultaneously introduced Turbo powered Porsche 930.
The Porsche Carrera 3.0 was built in 1976 and 1977 jointly with two other models in the 911 series, the standard 911 and the 930/911 Turbo. During this short period of two years only 3687 cars were built. A very low number if you compare it with nearly 58,000 911 SC's and 76,500 produced 911 Carrera 3.2 models. Of the Carrera 3.0 2564 coupes and 1123 Targa versions left the factory.
In the year 1976 a total of 1093 Carrera 3.0 Coupes were built, of which there were 487 RHD and 606 LHD. The name 'Carrera' (Spanish for Race) is a trademark that Porsche exclusively sticks on some models to commemorate their success in the Carrera Panamericana races.
The Carrera 3.0 engine is based on the same engine as the one used in the 930/911 Turbo but without the turbocharger. The engine offers 200 hp at 255 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. The engine features the six-bolt flywheel and the crankshaft of the legendary 1973 Carrera RS. This Carrera 3.0 engine would eventually grow into the base for all subsequent 911 models up to 1989 such as the 911SC and the Carrera 3.2.
The Carrera 3.0 has the reputation of being a tempered version of the original 2.7 RS and 2.7 Carreras but this is not quite right. As far as performance is concerned, the figures of the 3.0 are almost comparable to those of the well-known Carrera RS in the early 70s. The Carrera 3.0 accelerates in almost equal seconds from 0-100 km/h and from 0-160 km/h. The 3 litre engine even supplies so much torque that, in the highest acceleration, it accelerates 3 seconds faster from 40 – 160 km/h than its production predecessors.
