Innocenti - Mini Cooper MK2 - 1969

The Innocenti Mini Cooper mk2 was built from 1967 to 1970 in about 9000 units, with 998 displacement delivering 60 HP. This model was sold new in Florence (Tuscany) in 1969 and has been always in the provinces of Florence and Lucca. Number plate and registration document are original from first registration. Also present: user’s and maintenance booklet that was provided with the car and the very rare manual for Innocenti service stations (all original of the time). The Mk2 peculiarity is its suicide doors and the sliding windows as mounted on its “sister” Mk1. In particular, this Mini underwent a radical restoration from 2017 to mid-2018 in the hands of Mini experts. The bodywork was brought to sheet metal (not sandblasted but just sanded, as Mini laminates of the time were very thin and sandblasting could mean running the risk of bending them); the starting base was very good; the whole front axle was checked and numerous parts were replaced because worn by time; the hydrolastic suspension system was overhauled and now works well. The engine was rebored (+40 oversized), new Powermax DTOP pistons were mounted, the crankshaft and lightened flywheel were both balanced, crankshaft/piston rod/camshaft bronze bearings replaced, new 180 mm clutch fitted without coupling, cylinder head was overhauled, lines were adjusted, valve tracks replaced for unleaded petrol, valve seats rebored 45°, inlet and exhaust valves oversized (25-27.5) to reach a 15% power increase that you can enjoy on the road. New timing belt and all components, inspected gearbox with gaskets and synchronisers, new steering box. The engine is still breaking in. At the end of restoration it drove 200 km to verify the positive outcome of the works. It is advisable to perform at least a 1000 km break-in. The car runs perfectly, the gearbox is precise, the breaking system has been checked thoroughly and worn parts have been replaced. The carburettor has been left slightly greased and will be refined at the end of breaking in. The interior has been fitted with a new carpet and seats upholstered in leatherette as they originally were. The dashboard is original and shows a 2 cm cut on the upholstery on the passenger side. The headlining is original and in good conditions, as the parasol. I want to clarify that the steering wheel comes from an Innocenti Mini Minor. The magnesium rims mounted on the car are original of the time and fitted with Yokohama tyres. The original iron rims with new tyres will be delivered as well with the car. The front additional headlights were mounted on a specific bracket. They can be easily removed using the two bolts fixed on the body. Please note that they haven’t been electrically connected. Bodywork in excellent conditions, showing no trace of rust or dents of any kind. Perfect for regularity races; a unique vehicle for its history and rarity. The car will be delivered with an inspection valid for two years. It can be viewed in Forte dei Marmi (LU). Shipping costs, change of ownership or registration cancellation for export purposes are at buyer’s charge.

The Mk2 peculiarity is its suicide doors and the sliding windows as mounted on its “sister” Mk1.
