Honda - VF 1000 R - 1000 cc - 1985

Honda VF 1000 R, the homologation ‘series’ model for SBK racer Spencer. This very carefully maintained exotic is intact, fully operable and ready to go. Large picture files; so zoom in! Retail price in 1985 was 26,160 guilders, literally twice as much as other sports motorcycles. Actually they were only made to justify Freddy Spencer’s V-four Superbike racer (the ‘Water Whale’) as a ‘series motorcycle’. They were built ‘expensive’, among others with gear trains to the camshafts instead of a chain and other expensive components such as the - now light - 4th generation ComStar wheels. Just like its predecessor (the CB 1100 R), this V-four was already an exotic from the start. The current red-white-blue RCV V-four (worth 180,000) is.. a Honda tribute to this VF 1000 R. It is still well-suitable to ride: you can keep up with a - successive - RC 30 at Francorchamps. Still suitable as a sports motorcycle with its top speed of 245 km/h (and a beautiful deep sound...), but an investment object at the same time and a beauty to behold. Affordable now, but this likely to change in the future. Which makes sense, because its rare and a good investment. Trend: climbing!
