Antique Grand Tour bronze souvenir sculpture - the dancing faun of Pompeii - Italy - ca. 1890 

HISTORICAL INFO: 
The original bronze statue of the Dancing Faun (now in the Museo Nazionale, Naples, Italy) was located on the beautiful grounds of the 'House of the Faun', one of the largest private houses from the ancient times of Pompeii, built in the 2nd century and named after the statue of this satyr-like figure - preserved by layers of volcanic ash after the eruption of the Vesuvius, the statue was discovered during excavations in the 30s of the 19th century - from then on copies/souvenirs were made for rich art collectors, which they took home from their Grand Tour in Europe. 

Provenance: Italy. 
Material: Dark/black patinated bronze. 
Height: 10.5 cm. 

Condition: Excellent.
