Martina Bolognini - Very good - 1 Original artwork

Series: Martina Bolognini
Title: illustrazione originale "The Catch"
Year oldest item: 2019

“The Catch” is an illustration that represents the capture of a creature half human and half bird, attracted into the trap by music. Through the movement, characters create an almost circular interpretation of the plate, that lets the observer catch the details of every part of the work. Despite the care for details, the landscape is simple so that creatures can stand out against what surrounds them. The illustration was made in graphite and then inked with sepia-coloured multiliner on smooth A4 Bristol paper (dimensions 21 x 29.7). For the characters, a bolder, sharper and more fluid line was used to detach them from the environment in the background. With “The Catch” I wanted to represent eroticism in animal shape, to catch the moment when creatures have their first contact. Nature is on bottom right and captures the fragile creature with its roots.

Martina Bolognini, a.k.a. Maui, was born in Bologna in 1992. She showed her passion for drawing from an early age and then attended the Francesco Arcangeli art school in Bologna, where she got her diploma in the figurative course. She graduated in Comics and Illustration from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Later she specialised in Languages of Comics. She began to approach comics from a very early age, making it her main and personal form of communication and expression, taking inspiration from the masters of this field like Milo Manara, Ugo Pratt, Frank Cho and Magnus. After graduating, she decided to approach self-production, participating in the Lucca comics and games, Bologna and Modena Nerd, Lucca collezionando and Prato comics.
