Anton MAUVE (1838-1888). Anton Mauve is one of the most famous painters of the Hague School. He got his education from the animal painters P.F. van Os and Wouterus Verschuur. He also worked in Oosterbeek with P.J.C. Gabriel. He combines landscape and animals in his paintings. After some wandering, he settled in 1871 in the Hague, later in Laren, where he painted the heath with woolly sheep herds fading into the silver-grey tones of the landscape. One of his favourite spots was a piece of wild land just outside Laren, later called Mauvezand. Drawing watercolour, charcoal/ paper. Title: Kudde met schapen Signed bottom right.
