Mouchoir de cou napoléoniens. Neck handkerchief, commemorative scarf in cotton, printed by Manufacture Prokhoroff Trekhgorny in Moscow in 1912 for the first centenary of the Russian campaign. Emperor Alexander I image is framed in a wreath. Four generals portraits: Platov, Barclay de Tolly, Moscow Governor Rostopchine, Koutouzov. On the handkerchief, four scenes are also depicted: the meeting of the Russian General Staff, Napoleon and his staff watching the burning of Moscow, the burning of French regimental flags during the retreat, Russian Cossacks in the forest. The handkerchief in printed cotton has been mounted on a cardboard backing. Only part of the outer borders have been glued to the support back. The fabric light brown shade is presumably due to sunlight exposure as the object was on display in a framework with wooden frame. The colour shade could also be due to an originally coloured backing with a brown background. The item is as described on page 42 of the neck handkerchiefs exhibition held in Paris at the Malmaison Castle in 1995. The fabric has no anomalies, cuts, scratches or lesions on the printed part. The cotton on the printed and exposed side is not glued. A definitely original and rare item. Only two pieces can be found in the French collections. The item will be shipped in a safe, protective packaging.
