Pyx or Pyxis (host box) with birds - Silver gilt
From the collection of Museum Sacrum, items from the rich Roman life collected by the sacristan.
The pyxis is of silver, the inside is gilded and it is used in the Catholic liturgy to preserve the consecrated host if it needed to be brought along.
Hallmarks:
Side lid: mark with 835.
Inside lid and bottom dish are marked with
The rarely occurring B2 and a shading.
If a silver blacksmith made many parts, they were sometimes accepted as a party by the guarantee office. With their office letter they inspected in a reclining rectangle with hatched back, here the letter B of Utrecht and the 2 of silver-second-content (835/1000).
