Heavy handmade holy church bell 'LEO X AQVILA AGNVS X PELICANVS' - Brass
Beautiful heavy Holy church bell with inscription: 'LEO X AQVILA AGNVS X PELICANVS'. Made in the Netherlands in the first half of the 19th century; ca. 1830 and completely handmade! The bell of the sanctuary is usually tolled by an altar boy during the inauguration of the host in the mass. The bell tolls three times.
The Latin text on the bell indicates:
Aguila (the eagle is the symbol of St. John);
Agnus (the sheep or lamb is the symbol of the sheep of God or St. Agnus).
Pelicanus (The pelican is the symbol of the Eucharist the sacrifice of mass-according to the medieval legend the Pelican pierces his own chest to feed his boy, giving him his blood of life to save his own.
Leo the lion symbolises St. Mark.
Including the pendulum the total length is more than 30 cm!
