Lukas Roels (°1957, Gent, Belgium) studied photography at the academy of arts in Gent, but eventually became a professional photographer through self study. Has taught a lot and besides that worked on a portfolio of his own. His trademark is the use of as much daylight and deep shadows as possible; he never uses light from a flash. Has exhibited all over the world, even in Australia. His series ‘Angels of Time’, to which the offered photos also belong, give a beautiful and sober black and white image of children of different ages Photography in the tradition of Jock Sturges and Sally Mann, but with an own interpretation of light/dark effects. ‘The nakedness of my models has nothing sexual, they do not hide and do not provoke either. They are just there. Self confident, sometimes even a bit naughty, but always innocent. In addition the photos were made with permission and under supervision of the parents of the ones pictured.
