Antique glue pots (2) - Cast iron
Two antique cast iron glue pots. Each pot consists of two parts. The largest is in the shape of a pot. Along the edge of the opening three recesses are applied. The other is in the shape of a bucket and fits in the opening of he first. Both are provided with a handle.
Large pot:
- height 9 cm (18 including handle)
- diameter 11 cm
Small pot:
- height 7 cm (14.5 cm Including handle)
- diameter 8 cm
Background information.
One such glue pot was used for the Au-bain-marie to warm up bone glue. To be able to process the glue it had to be warm. The outer pot was partly filled with water and the inner jar was hung. Therein the solidified bone glue was laid which melted then. The water prevented the adhesive from getting warmer than a hundred degrees.
