‘fuyant la tempête’ - Escaping the
Very atmospheric work - Will the boat conquer the rough sea and can it escape the swirling waves? Or...
Albert De Vos (Oostakker, 1868 – Gent, 1950) was a Belgian painter.
Albert De Vos was primarily a marine painter: seas, harbours, pickets, fishing vessels and fishing figures. His style was a mixing style of realism and impressionism with a great sense of atmosphere.
From 1921 to 1926 he had a studio in the Lange Steenstraat 8 in Ghent; from 1927 until certainly after 1934 in the Korte Kalversteeg 1 in the Patershol in Ghent. The Patershol then had a concentration of visual artists.
In 1905 and 1907 he held individual exhibitions in the Ghent Cercle Artistique et Littéraire. In February 1934, he had an individual exhibition in the Zaal Taets in Ghent.
* He usually signed his works "Alb. Is. De Vos” with a dash under the last four letters of his last name.
