A microtome is a device with which very thin slices can be cut very accurately for making microscopic specimens.
This sliding microtome consists of a very sharp knife that is very stable and is moved evenly along the cutting block that automatically slides a little after each cut so that a new slice can be cut off.
The two microtome blades are not present.
