Mercedes-Benz - 220SE (W111) Cabriolet - 1962

Do not miss this opportunity and become the new owner of this beautiful and timeless Mercedes convertible classic! This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION. The W111 is a predecessor of the current S-class and was, especially for that time, a luxury car. The W111 was a pioneer in terms of passive safety. The sharp protruding parts of the W111’s interior were upholstered, to prevent injuries in case of an accident. The door handles didn’t stick out anymore. The W111 was the first car with a safety steering wheel. The W111 also marked the first time a safety cage with integrated crumple zone was used, after a design by Béla Barényi. Although the W111 was a great success (370,807 sedans, coupes and convertibles were built in total), only 2,729 copies of the 220 SE Convertibles were produced between September 1961 and October 1965 which makes this car very unique. This Mercedes has a Dutch license and is in very neat condition. The car was fully ‘frame off’ restored in the past (pictures available), during which the car was completely addressed technically as well as optically. The car idles nicely at 900 rpm and brakes properly, it is a vehicle that was always lovingly maintained which is clearly visible. Some months ago, the car received a new Dutch periodic vehicle inspection which is valid until 31-03-2021. The car’s paintwork (904 G Midnight Blue) is in very good condition and the interior looks like new. The wood at the top of the dashboard has somewhat discoloured due to sunlight, see the last three photos. The soft-top has recently been replaced. In addition, the car still has its original Beck radio. During the ‘frame off’ restoration, the engine was also revised (no receipt present). This is still clearly visible from the engine compartment that looks like new.
