Bronze study, early 20th century, representing a proud French bull with superb rich/gilt and clean surface details, standing on a stepped integral base. After Isidore Bonheur (1827-1901), probably posthumous cast; Peyrol foundry continued to produce the works of Bonheur after his death.

Book ref: Animals in Bronze by Christopher Payne Kjellberg. Page 177 Bonheur Bull - Isidore Bonheur (1827 ~ 1901) was born in Bordeaux, France, on 15 May 1827, and died in Paris in 1901. He was an important animal sculptor, brother of Rosa Bonheur and brother-in-law of Hippolyte Peyrol, the founder. The Bonheur were a well-known family, sculptors and artists. Isidore studied painting very early under the tutelage of his father. Isidore Bonheur has kept exhibiting his sculptures over the years, both at the Paris Salon and at the Royal Academy in London.
