Pair of Art Deco sea-lion bookends Signed Frécourt in hollow on both animals.
The pedestals are made of sea green marble, the sea lions are made of bronze.
Maurice Frécourt started to create in 1890, a date that is often mistakenly given as his birth year. His youth and enthusiasm made him famous in bronze arts from the Belle Epoque period. But he started to acquire fame and prestige at the Salon of 1920, by fortunately translating the hieratic imperatives of the Art Deco style in his vision of the animal world.
