Cornelis Raaphorst (1875-1954) - Twee spelende jonge poezen

Painting with two young kittens by Cornelis raaphorst (1875-1954). Oil on canvas. Hand-signed on the bottom right: C Raaphorst. Size painting, 19.2 x 25.1 cm. Including frame 36.4 x 42.2 x 6.5 cm. Condition: frame with minor signs of use. The painting is in good condition. The work of art will be carefully packaged and shipped insured with track & trace. Autodidact Cornelis Raaphorst initially specialised (in addition to his regular work as a house and decoration painter, with which he had to earn an income for his large family) in painting still lifes, flowers and landscapes. After that, his main subject became playing kittens. He painted them in all their glory, surrounded by colourful drapes and expensive utensils. Source of inspiration must have been the work of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, although he developed an entirely individualistic style. His work is collected both nationally as well as internationally. This item is from a private collection.
