Torture tool, cradle of Judas (1) - wood and cast iron - Late 19th century
This cradle of Judas, also called Judas Cradle, comes from an Italian castle and torture Museum.
At the time it was labelled original 17th century, but it probably is a replica manufactured around the end of the 19th century.
With a metal band around the neck, the victim was lifted on top of the tip of this pyramid. The executioners could change the pressure on the victim by lifting the victim up and then lower him.
The Italian name for this torture tool is 'Culla di Guida', in German the 'Judaswiege', the French deviated with the term 'La Veille', in other words 'The wake' or 'wait'.
