Beautiful textiles made by the Shoowa tribe from the Kuba Kingdom. The splendid Shoowa textiles are an essential part of the KUBA tribal culture. They are extremely laborious to make - men are in charge of the softening of the palm fibres and of the weaving, the women take care of the embroidery. The making of 1 textile takes between 4 to 6 months! The fascinating geometrical designs always have a specific meaning - we can also find these motives on the body scarification of Kuba men and women.
Shoowa textiles are used as currency, or as means of trade, and are an essential part of the dowry.
Origin: received from my uncle who comes from Congo and is himself (Ba) Kuba
