Mainline History:
The locomotives of the type Württembergische C (DR Series 18.1) were deployed by the Königlich Württembergische Staats-Eisenbahnen (K.W.STS.E.) as from 1909. 41 of these locomotives were built by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen, which, that with their 2'C1' axle configuration were primarily used for hauling passenger trains.
The Württembergische C class locomotives were built between 1909 and 1921 by the Maschinenfabrik Esslingen. A total of 41 units were built. The locomotives were designed for the steeper inclines in Württemberg and therefore had smaller drive-wheels with a diameter of 180 cm. The locomotives had an unusual appearance for their time, earning them the nickname "die schöne Württembergerin".
