It was the first gold pound of Queen Elizabeth and it was the return to high quantity coining, ended with George V in 1925 in the homeland and in 1931 in South Africa. This gold pound was coined from 1957 to 1968 with the exclusion of 1960 and 1961; 1957 presents a very fine striped border that deteriorates and easily dents. This is for many the hoarding currency and investment par excellence and it has a vast marketing all over the world. Close attention needs to be paid to 1966, 1967 and 1968 as they were dangerous years for the many fakes that unfortunately were made; you can find fakes with the same purity, slightly lower purity and not in gold but with just gilding. This new minting gold pound was called by different names: 'fiocchetto', 'fiocco', 'codino' to distinguish it from the next minting which would be called 'coroncina'.
