Wonderful wall coat of arms made of travertine, depicting fasces lictorii; entirely carved and crafted by hand and dating back to 1927/28, as shown by the engraved date.
From important and exclusive private collection of antique items in Rome.
In Ancient Rome, fasces lictorii were weapons bore by lictors and consisted of a bundle of wooden sticks bound, usually around an axe, by leather straps. They were successively used as heraldic symbols of political movements and ideologies of the 20th century, such as fascism.
The item has a wonderful patina. Perfect to be hung on the wall or resting against it.
Moderate and well-proportioned dimensions. The weight is not excessive.
High quality and craftsmanship lot, the decoration surrounding the fasces around the emblem is also nice.
This coat of arms is one of a kind, rare and impossible to find on the common market. It is an exclusive item for real enthusiasts.
The travertine is a chemical calcareous sedimentary rock, widely used in construction, especially in Rome, from the first millennium B.C.
During the Fascist period many new structures were built in travertine, inspired by the monuments of the Roman empire. Even the famous Trevi fountain was built with the use of travertine.
The Fascist period started the day after the march on Rome, which took place on 28th October 1922.
Therefore, the year ‘VI’ engraved on this item indicates the year between 29th October 1927 and 28th October 1928.
Excellent overall condition, completely intact.
In case of shipping, it will be sent after proper and careful packaging.
Trackable and safe affordable shipping to Italy, Europe and the rest of the world.
